Healthy and Affordable Food Choices (Year 2024)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) – Ensuring Access to Nutritious and Affordable Food for All (SDG 2)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) recognizes the importance of providing healthy and affordable food options to ensure equal access for all staff and students. The university’s food management policy emphasizes both nutrition and fairness in pricing, ensuring that every member of the community can access balanced meals without financial strain.
“Quality Food, Fair Prices” Policy
Under the concept of “Quality Food, Fair Prices, for the Good Health of Everyone in the University”, NSTRU’s food center maintains meal prices that are appropriate for student incomes — with general meals priced at no more than 50 baht (approximately 1.54 USD) per plate. This pricing structure ensures that students have reliable access to nutritious meals while minimizing their daily expenses.
Healthy Food and Beverage Options
The university also offers health food shops and fresh fruit smoothie stands that provide nutritious beverages made from organic fruits and vegetables such as bananas, mangoes, guavas, and watermelons. These options encourage the community to adopt healthier eating habits and reduce the consumption of sugary drinks.
Inclusivity and Cultural Diversity
The food center includes separate zones for Thai, Buddhist, and Muslim (Halal) cuisine, ensuring that all food complies with Islamic dietary principles and reflects cultural inclusivity across campus. This approach supports harmony, respect, and understanding among diverse groups within the university.
Campus Market and Community Support
NSTRU has also established an on-campus marketplace where university staff and local farmers can sell healthy food and organic agricultural products at reasonable prices. This initiative not only provides students with affordable access to nutritious food but also strengthens the local economy and fosters a sense of community self-reliance.
Impact and Benefits
