Current Collaborations with Health Institutions (Year 2024)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) – Collaborations to Improve Health and Well-being Outcomes (SDG 3)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) prioritizes the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through a sustainable, comprehensive health-promotion strategy that combines prevention, early detection, and continuity of care. The initiative began with a women’s health program focused on breast cancer screening and self-care management—addressing every stage: prevention, awareness building, and access to treatment with follow-up care.
Comprehensive Women’s Health Program
At the preventive stage, the university develops student health leaders who drive campaigns promoting breast self-examination (BSE) among women. These student leaders play a key role in encouraging early detection and proactive self-care behaviors. At the awareness stage, the university enhances knowledge and understanding of breast cancer screening through educational campaigns and skill-building activities. At the treatment stage, a referral system ensures that individuals who detect abnormalities receive timely and continuous medical care—reducing mortality and improving outcomes.
Collaborative Network and Achievements
The initiative is led by the Tanyarak Club of Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University in collaboration with the Tanyarak Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra. The foundation supports data management through an application and website used to record and track health activities. The university also collaborates with 23 Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospitals to coordinate and implement community-based health activities.
As a result, 260 student health leaders were trained and mobilized to conduct breast self-examination campaigns within the university and surrounding communities. A total of 2,212 individuals have participated in screening activities, contributing to early detection and more effective treatment. The project was awarded first runner-up among Rajabhat universities nationwide by the Tanyarak Foundation.
TO BE NUMBER ONE Club Activities
The TO BE NUMBER ONE Club at NSTRU implements comprehensive initiatives both on campus and in surrounding areas. The program aims to strengthen resilience and provide safe environments for students, while building partnerships with communities, schools, government agencies, and prisons to extend outreach and promote a drug-free society.
In 2024, 100 club members joined a public march with the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Public Health Office and provincial agencies on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The club also partnered with the Department of Corrections to provide drug education for inmates and youth in detention (200 participants), and with community agencies to run awareness sessions for 300 residents across three communities. Additionally, 100 high school students participated in drug prevention sessions conducted by the club.
Impact and Future Directions
These initiatives demonstrate NSTRU’s strong commitment to advancing SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Through early detection, health education, community engagement, and inter-sectoral partnerships, the university plays a vital role in building a healthier, more resilient society.
Moving forward, NSTRU plans to expand health promotion, disease prevention, and rehabilitation programs for chronic conditions, strengthening self-management capacity among residents and enhancing collaboration with hospitals and clinicians to ensure continuous and integrated care.
