Sustainable Food Choices on Campus (Year 2024)

Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) – Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Food Systems (SDG 2)

Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) prioritizes the creation of a sustainable food system on campus, ensuring that all staff and students have access to safe, nutritious, and culturally inclusive meals that support diverse lifestyles. Under the concept of “Food for All in NSTRU”, the university promotes responsible food consumption and equitable access for all.

Diverse and Sustainable Food Systems

The university’s food court and cafeteria are organized to promote both sustainability and inclusivity. Separate food zones have been established for Thai-Buddhist and Muslim (Halal) cuisine, ensuring that all food complies with Islamic dietary principles and respects cultural diversity on campus.

In addition, the campus provides healthy food restaurants and fresh fruit smoothie shops that use locally sourced, chemical-free ingredients such as bananas, mangoes, watermelons, and guavas. These nutritious options encourage students and staff to make healthier dietary choices and reduce the consumption of sugary beverages.

NSTRU Green Market Initiative

The NSTRU Green Market serves as a sustainable on-campus marketplace that connects the university with local farmers and communities. The market offers chemical-free vegetables, organic rice, and processed community products, supporting local producers and promoting environmentally friendly food choices.

This initiative not only enhances campus food security but also contributes to the local economy and the development of sustainable consumption patterns among students and staff.

Impact and Long-term Benefits

  • Promotes access to safe, nutritious, and culturally diverse food options
  • Encourages healthier lifestyles and dietary habits among students and staff
  • Strengthens the local food economy through collaboration with farmers and vendors
  • Supports sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems

Through these actions, NSTRU demonstrates its dedication to creating a balanced, sustainable campus food ecosystem aligned with global sustainability principles.

🌿 Aligned with SDG 2: Zero Hunger

The “Sustainable Food Choices on Campus” project contributes directly to SDG 2: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. NSTRU continues to build a model campus where sustainable food systems support both health and community well-being.
