Student Food Insecurity and Hunger (Year 2024)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) recognizes the challenge of food insecurity among underprivileged students and implements sustainable solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger).
The “Food Sharing” Project
To address hunger and ensure every student has access to adequate and nutritious food, NSTRU continuously runs the “Food Sharing” project throughout the academic year. Faculty members, staff, and students are encouraged to donate rice, dried food, and essential items to support students facing economic hardship.
Donation and distribution points are conveniently located in the university cafeteria and student activity building. Through these ongoing efforts, the university provides real, tangible assistance while fostering a culture of sharing, compassion, and unity across campus.
Beneficiaries of this initiative report improvements in their quality of life, reduced financial anxiety, and an increased ability to focus on their studies. Meanwhile, the broader university community cultivates values of sustainability, empathy, and mutual support.
Additional 2024 Initiatives Supporting Food Security
- Special Events: Organizing Buddha amulet and talisman competitions to raise funds for scholarships benefiting talented yet underprivileged students.
- Financial Assistance Programs: Offering various supports such as the Student Loan Fund (SLF), private scholarships, faculty and alumni scholarships.
These measures collectively help reduce student financial burdens, minimize hunger risk, and enhance long-term food security across the NSTRU community.
🎯 Aligned with SDG 2: Zero Hunger
By ensuring access to food and reducing inequality in student welfare, this initiative contributes directly to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — particularly SDG 2: End hunger, achieve food security, and improve nutrition.
