Initiate and participate in cross-sectoral dialogue about the SDGs
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, as a higher education institution with the primary mission of local development in accordance with the Royal Policy of “Rajabhat University for Local Development,” plays an important role in integrating knowledge, research, and academic services to create positive social change and to enhance the quality of life of people in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and the Upper Southern Region.
In 2024, the University organized the “Conference on Driving the Rajabhat University for Local Development Project” to establish a policy collaboration mechanism among the University, government agencies, the private sector, and civil society organizations (NGOs). (View photos)
To align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the project focuses on promoting effective, sustainable, and continuous local development across various dimensions.
Activities under the project include policy meetings and brainstorming sessions among representatives from government agencies (such as the 38 Rajabhat Universities Network, the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Office, the Provincial Administrative Organization, the Environment and Pollution Control Office 14, and the Provincial Public Health Office), the private sector (such as the Provincial Chamber of Commerce and Local Business Associations), and civil society organizations (such as the Thanyarak Breast Center).
The activities also involve area-based problem analysis and the creation of issue mapping, using research data and the University’s spatial database in combination with local government data.
Policy Briefs Developed
Implementation Results
- Local people gained knowledge and enhanced their capacity to manage community problems independently, leading to the establishment of more than 20 sub-district-level networks in the areas of economy, health, and environment.
- Systematic collaboration among various sectors was achieved, reducing project duplication and increasing the efficiency of resource use for local development.
The 2024 implementation demonstrates the University’s proactive role as a “Center for Sustainable Local Development”, utilizing participatory processes from all sectors as the main mechanism for setting policies and development directions.
The outcomes not only reflect the improvement of people’s quality of life, but also strengthen collaborative networks for sustainable development in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals and further expand into other dimensions of local development in the future on a continuous basis.
