Building on Brownfield Sites – Son Sroi Pine Forest Project (In Place by 2024)

Transforming unused and derelict land into a sustainable multi-purpose learning center.

Project Overview

The Son Sroi Pine Forest area in Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, is a designated public utility site belonging to the university. Covering approximately 192 rai, the site had remained unused for a considerable period and had become derelict and overgrown. The university therefore planned to establish activities on the site with the goal of rehabilitating the degraded area for sustainable use.

Implementation Timeline

Land preparation commenced in mid-2018, with the 4th Army Area supplying personnel and machinery support for the site development. This joint effort aimed to develop the “King’s land” to achieve sustainable local progress. The 401st Engineer Battalion, 4th Development Division, was tasked with developing and improving the site, including:

  • Construction of primary and secondary roads
  • Excavation of ponds

Current Efforts

Following the initial phase, the university has continued to work on the site. Current development includes a multi-purpose building designed to harmonize with the local environment, minimize ecological impact, and maximize energy efficiency. The entire initiative operates under the concept of a “Sustainable Nature Learning Center.”

This project demonstrates Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University’s commitment to transforming brownfield sites into sustainable, community-serving learning spaces while promoting environmental stewardship and local development.
