Recording and Preserving Cultural Heritage (2024)
Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University creates various projects to document and safeguard intangible cultural heritage, such as folktales, traditions, languages, and knowledge. These activities ensure continuity of local culture while engaging children, youth, and the general public.
1. Banana Leaf (Bai Sri) Craft Training Activity
Date: 15 July 2024
Venue: Cultural Center Meeting Room, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University
Participants: 30
The purpose of this activity was to preserve and continue traditions, customs, arts, and local wisdom related to banana leaf crafts, so that children and youth may gain knowledge and skills in handicrafts and to apply them in creating decorative elements for Candle Festival offerings.
2. Learning Center on Dairy Buffalo Way of Life
Date: July 22, 2024
Venue: Dairy Buffalo Learning Center (Thawee Chai Farm), Khnabnak Subdistrict, Pak Phanang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
Participants: 30
The purpose of this activity was to encourage youth participation in preserving and carrying on local traditions, wisdom, and culture, as well as to collaboratively develop and promote the cultural heritage of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
3. Museum and Learning Center on Traditional Rice Farming Tools
Date: August 7, 2024
Venue: Wat Bang Wa School, Chian Yai District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
Participants: 80
The purpose of this activity was to promote knowledge and preserve the cultural heritage related to traditional rice farming equipment, as well as to serve as a learning resource for youth in the community and the general public.
4. Youth Impromptu Poetry Contest on the Occasion of the Sart Duean Sib Merit-Making Festival
Dates: September 7, 22, 28–29, and October 3–4, 2024
Venues: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University, and at Sanam Na Mueang
Participants: 320
This activity aimed to promote the conservation of local wisdom and the collaborative enhancement of cultural heritage within Nakhon Si Thammarat province, while cultivating a new generation of poets for society. It also supported children and youth to think creatively and express themselves confidently, promoted harmony between schools and universities, and developed quality learning centers. Furthermore, the event enhanced the abilities of students so that they could contribute ideas and creativity to significant projects for the province and society as a whole, in line with the decade-long mission of preserving and promoting culture for future development.
5. Banana Leaf Handicraft Workshop in Celebration of the Loy Krathong Festival
Date: November 14, 2024
Venue: Cultural Center Conference Room, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University
Participants: 81
The purpose of this workshop was to preserve and promote the Loy Krathong tradition and to provide knowledge about banana leaf crafts to children, youth, and other interested participants, through training on how to make krathong (floating baskets) from banana leaves.
These activities reflect the university’s commitment to recording, preserving, and promoting intangible cultural heritage, ensuring that knowledge, traditions, and local wisdom are passed on to future generations for sustainable cultural development.
