SDG 9: University Spin-offs and Local Innovation (2024)

Advancing Local Industries through Research-Based Innovation

Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) is committed to advancing research that yields innovations and technologies aimed at solving problems and strengthening the capacity of local communities in concrete ways. The university supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to infrastructure, innovation, and industry, and promotes the protection and transfer of Intellectual Property (IP) for commercial and social benefit.

🌾 Agricultural Machinery Innovation for “Khao Khai Mod Rin” Rice

Supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI, 2020), NSTRU developed specialized agricultural machinery for “Khao Khai Mod Rin”, a local agricultural identity product of Hua Sai District. These technologies are protected under three petty patents:

  • Integrated Rice Milling Machine (Patent No. 24000)
  • Brown–White Rice Milling Machine (Patent No. 24001)
  • Rotary Mixing Paddy Grain Dryer (Patent No. 20521)

These innovations enhance production efficiency, reduce losses, and maintain product quality — strengthening the regional agricultural industry.

🧺 Innovation for the Preservation and Development of “Yan Lipao” Handicrafts

With research funding from the Program Management Unit for Area-Based Development (PMU-A, 2021), NSTRU addressed key challenges in Yan Lipao basketry production, developing both technological and design innovations.

🔧 Machinery Innovation (Pending Patents):

  • Yan Lipao Fiber Splitting and Smoothing Machine (Application No. 2101005051)
  • Rattan Smoothing Machine (Application No. 2101005050)
  • Yan Lipao Fiber Splitting Machine (Application No. 2101005052)

These machines reduce manual labor, improve material quality, and increase production capacity, helping local entrepreneurs compete in global markets.

🎨 Product Design Innovation:

Protected under six design patents (Nos. 107488–107493) for modern “Bag” designs, this initiative strengthens the global appeal of Yan Lipao products and uplifts traditional craftsmanship through innovation.
